The Government of Vietnam and the World Bank sponsored the Vietnam Urban Upgrading Project (VUUP) to support poverty alleviation by improving the living and environmental conditions of the urban poor. CEP implements the Project to provide loans to the poor in the areas of HCMC. The project was implemented from 2004 to 2014 and provided income growth and housing improvement loans to approximately 10,000 poor people in HCMC.

Under the Vietnam Urban Upgrading Project, CEP offers the following two products:

  • Housing improvement loans were provided to 6,000 households from 2004-2011, the maximum loan amount is 15 million VND, and the loan term is 3 years.
  • Loans to increase income are provided to 4,000 poor workers living in the project area from 2004-2014, the maximum loan amount is 7 million VND, and the loan term is from 40 to 60 weeks.

Beneficiaries of the Project are poor low-income households living in the Project area that are directly or indirectly affected by the infrastructure upgrade under the Project. The project will provide home repair, home improvement, and improvement loans.
